Koelfontein Shiraz 2020

A lovely deep and rich plum coloured wine. This medium-full bodied Shiraz is wonderfully smooth with soft hints of pepper. Whilst Koelfontein is a world renowned fruit farm, only 8,000 bottles of Shiraz are made each year.

Vinification:

Grapes were crushed and destemmed with a four day coldsoak prior to inoculation with yeast. The juice was then fermented for 11 days before being pressed to new 300 litre French oak barrels where malolactic fermentation was inoculated. The wine was racked and after 20 months total barrel maturation, it was filtered and bottled.

Winemaker’s comments:

An inviting wine with intense berry flavours laced with alluring Moroccan spice. A medium-bodied wine, with firm tannins and a long-lasting finish. A good companion for lamb with Mediterranean herbs and spices.
