Koelfontein Chardonnay 2020 (Case of 6)

Soft gold in colour with a lighter than average hue. This Chardonnay has hints of clove and vanilla with layers of citrus notes rounded off by a creamy finish on the palate. Overall the wine is full-bodied, beautifully balanced, with delicate hints of oak. Only 8,000 bottles were produced.

Vinification:

Grapes were whole bunch pressed and settled overnight in stainless steel tanks. Juice was then transferred to barrels where spontaneous fermentation occurred, followed by natural malolactic fermentation. The wine remained on its gross lees for 10 months with occasional batonnage used to keep the lees in suspension.

Winemaker’s comments:

A wonderfully complex and enticing nose of lemon curd, grilled hazelnuts, talc and sweet oak. On the palate, the wine is pure creamed lemon sherbet, showing a great interplay between sweet and savoury tones. It promises a lot of sweetness but finishes wonderfully dry with gentle mineral floral notes.
